Establishing Zion

Hello everyone!

MONDAY we contacted this referral from church headquarters. It was airound 9 o’clock when we knocked on the door. This lady answered and said she HAD requested missionaries and a Book of Mormon- Β several years ago. She was wearing an Iraq sweatshirt and came out on the porch, shutting the door behind her. Sister P asked her if she still wanted the Book of Mormon. She nodded with tears in her eyes. I could tell something was wrong… she didn’t say much, just that she “had been having a hard day.” We made an appointment to come back the next day.

TUESDAY we went to Amanda’s- the lady from last night- and ended up teaching her for two hours! It was intense! She kept saying how grateful she was to us for coming over πŸ™‚ We thanked her for having us! We visited Sister Kruger- our NASCAR lady… she ended up coming to church this week! πŸ™‚
We had a lesson with Yan Ping… a lot of Google Translate which takes a long time. She said she was concerned to be baptized while she was pregnant. She’s also going back to China in a few months, and there is limited number of members of the church there, so if we baptize her, we worry she’ll be less active right away. (This is what Sister P said).
We also picked up a former investigator- Jessica- who has been taught everything and been to church multiple times. She was on date to be baptized… not sure what happened. We’ll see though!

WEDNSDAY we didn’t have District Meeting because of 1/2 mission Pday on Thursday, so we did a lot of walking/Personal Contacting because we are out of miles. #endofthemonthprobs

THURSDAY we carpooled up to Mount Pleasant for 1/2 Mission Pday. It was fun. There were a lot of water activities (i.e. water dodge ball)… I got to know some new missionaries better and reconnect with Elders and sisters I’ve served with in the past, so that was fun. πŸ™‚ The missionaries going home (Sister P) shared their departing testimonies, and that’s always spiritual.

FRIDAY we had a lesson with another former investigator… a biker chick with gargoyles and dragons in her house! She was awesome and really enjoyed our conversation! She invited us back to teach her and her daughter next week! πŸ™‚

SATURDAY we taught Amanda again, and I invited her to be baptized by someone holding the priesthood authority for August 29th! She said yes! πŸ˜€ We also made a surprise visit to a less active who ended up teaching us how to spin wool… πŸ™‚ Isaiah 1:18, right? πŸ˜‰

SUNDAY we had dinner with a young married girl in our ward for the first time… I actually grew up with her! πŸ™‚ She also invited her friend, who had grown up in my home ward and we caught up. We did some potential and less active finding… something we haven’t done as much lately because of door knocking, so that was a nice change πŸ™‚

I hope you all had a good week and are enjoying the new month of August! ❀ Love, Sister Alex Harrison

“Obedience to God can be the very highest expression of independence. Just think of giving to Him the one thing, the one gift, that He would never take. Obedience β€” that which God will never take by force β€” He will accept when freely given. He will then return to you freedom that you can hardly dream of β€” the freedom to feel and to know, the freedom to do, and the freedom to be, at least a thousand fold more than we offer him. Strangely enough, the key to freedom is obedience.”
